NFL Power Rankings (After Week 12)

Image
Other than the San Francisco 49ers' pounding of the Green Bay Packers, not a whole lot to talk about in this Top 10 again. The Top 4 are the same, New Orleans re-enters the Top 5, Green Bay slips back to No. 8 and Houston and Kansas City re-enters the Top 10. 1. (1 last week) Baltimore (9-2): So after throwing for five touchdowns in that 45-6 rout of the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, Lamar Jackson is not only the front-runner for the Most Valuable Player honor, but he's also the closest thing to the invention of sliced bread. He's having a special year. 2. (2) Seattle (9-2): Let's not forget about Russell Wilson. He's having a special year, too, even if he was just 13-of-25 passing with an interception, but he threw for 200 yards and a touchdown in a 17-9 win over Philadelphia. The Seahawks fought off the Eagles and weather elements last Sunday. 3. (3) San Francisco (10-1): Jimmy Garoppolo was Jimmy G. again, going 14-for-20 passing for 253 ya...

NFL Power Rankings (After Week 11)

Image
This week is strictly from the "nothing to see here, move along" category. The Top 8 teams in the rankings either won or had the bye week. They stay where they are. With Houston (No. 9) and Pittsburgh (No. 10) both getting touched up, they move out and moving in are the Oakland Raiders at No. 9 and the Dallas Cowboys at No. 10. 1. (1 last week) Baltimore (9-2): Lamar Jackson threw for four touchdowns and 224 yards and ran for 86 yards, while Gus Edwards had 112 yards and a TD in a 41-7 wipeout of the Houston Texans. This team is rolling, but they will have a test Monday night in Los Angeles against a Rams team just outside the Top 10 waiting to get in. 2. Seattle (8-2): After competing hard to this record (one of the losses to the No. 1 Ravens), the Seahawks had a well-deserved bye. They get back to it Sunday with a battle at Philadelphia against the Eagles. 3. (3) San Francisco (9-1): Those pesky Arizona Cardinals again. Took Jimmy Garoppolo to find Jeff Wilson ou...

NFL Power Rankings (After Week 10)

Well, what do we have here? A bloodbath of a Week 10 has come to an end with a major shakeup in the NFL Power Rankings. After one week at No. 1 in the rankings, the San Francisco 49ers lose to the surging Seattle Seahawks and drop back to No. 3, making way for the dangerous Baltimore Ravens to make their way to the top. The Ravens followed up their stunning 37-20 win over previous No. 1 New England by plowing through awful Cincinnati, 49-13. While the Ravens storm to the No. 1 spot, the Seattle Seahawks surge from No. 6 to No. 2 after outlasting those 49ers, 27-24, in overtime in arguably the best game of the NFL season. The 49ers slip to No. 3. Green Bay moves back into the Top 5, New Orleans (No. 6) and Buffalo (No. 8) drop out of the Top 5 and the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 10) moves into the Top 10. 1. (3 last week) Baltimore (8-2): Lamar Jackson continues to show everyone why he is an MVP candidate after going 15-of-17 passing for 223 yards and three TDs, while rushing f...

NFL Power Rankings (After Week 9)

Finally, we found out the New England Patriots were beatable. And with that, they drop out of the top spot in my NFL Power Rankings and make way for the lone unbeaten team left in those rankings -- the 8-0 San Francisco 49ers. And by virtue of that huge win, the Baltimore Ravens leap four places into the No. 3 spot, while the Patriots slip to No. 4. The New Orleans Saints could have been No. 1 -- but the bye week could not have come at the worst time for them and they hold at No. 2 this week. Otherwise, Buffalo is back in the Top 5, Seattle and Kansas City move in the Top 10, Green Bay and Minnesota fall within the rankings and Houston (hello!) is in the Top 10 this week.  Here's where we are after Week 9: 1. (3 last week) San Francisco (8-0): It's been a bit of a journey to get to the No. 1, and no, the 49ers didn't look great against the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday night, but they are No. 1 as the lone unbeaten left. Their defense has been lights out, but n...
