NFL Power Rankings (After Week 5)
Now we get to see some movement in the NFL Power Rankings!
With the losses by Kansas City, Dallas, Chicago and the Los Angeles Rams this past week, we have three new teams in the Top 10 mix and the Chiefs will have to rebound from a lower ranking this week.
Oh, by the way, the New England Patriots still rule the roost:
1. (1 last week) New England Patriots (5-0): This week, the Patriots proved not only are they good, they can get coaches fired as well as Jay Gruden got canned the day after New England stomped on Washington, 33-7. Only an act of god … and a team that has credentials … stops Brady, Belichick and Co. at this point. Maybe it's you, New York Giants!
2. (3) New Orleans Saints (4-1): No Drew Brees? No problem. At least for now. The Saints continue to win without their main attraction, holding back the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past week, 31-24. Jacksonville Jaguars … step right up on your own home field.
3. (7) San Francisco 49ers (4-0): The 49ers returned from their bye week refreshed and the Cleveland Browns, it turns out, didn't want any part of the Niners attack in a 31-3 beatdown. Are Garropolo and Co. for real? Find out this week when the 49ers travel to the Memorial Coliseum to face off with the wounded Los Angeles Rams.
4. (5) Philadelphia Eagles (3-2): No, the New York Jets weren't a match for these guys … the Jets are very bad. But the Eagles win nonetheless and now they set their sights on a trip to Norse Country to face off with the Minnesota Vikings this weekend.
5. (6) Green Bay Packers (4-1): So 10 days after the loss to the Eagles dropped the Packers out of the Top 5, they came back to beat a team that really isn't all that after all … the Dallas Cowboys … and did it, too, on the Cowboys' home turf. But Aaron Rodgers and teammates will surely be challenged when a good Detroit Lions team just outside the Top 10 comes a-callin' at Lambeau Field this week.
6. (2) Kansas City Chiefs (4-1): No offense, Patrick Mahomes, but you've gotta stop hangin' out with Aaron Rodgers and his loser agent and get back to dominating again. Mahomes has just one touchdown pass in the last two weeks after 10 in the first three. Indianapolis is proving to be better than first thought, too.
7. (8) Buffalo Bills (4-1): Is there ever a hangover after losing to the Patriots the week before? Not if you put up a fight and lose by a touchdown you don't. Big rebound week for Buffalo by taking down the up-and-down Tennessee Titans on the Titans' home soil, 14-7. They have earned their bye week.
8. (NEW) Seattle Seahawks (4-1): You will turn heads with impressive victories. And at 4-1 and with a big victory at home over the Rams last Thursday night, the Seahawks are noticed. Russell Wilson is earning a lot of praise … and early MVP votes, too. A trip to the league's biggest mystery, the Cleveland Browns, is up next.
9. (NEW) Oakland Raiders (3-2): Don't look now, but Chuckie's guys are surging. Standout wins in the last two weeks over the Indianapolis Colts on the road and then the Chicago Bears in London and suddenly, these guys don't feel so much like an afterthought. It's early, but they might have something going here.
10. (NEW) Carolina Panthers (3-2): And in another version of "Don't look now," the Panthers have won three straight and have done it with Kyle Allen … and not Cam Newton … behind center, while Christian McCaffrey has taken on the responsibility as that guy who demands everyone jump on his back. Oh, and the Panthers defense is still pretty good. Tampa Bay in London is next.
